The flood ... by Aroco The flood ... by Aroco
Auckland has had a bit of rain of late.... This is Hunua Gorge, the volume of water and the speed in which it has hit, has left quite a bit of devastation in its wake.

Thank you Mayumi. The water is very strong at the moment due to the rain we have had in the past week.  However, today was beautiful, so hopefully it has finished :)

Yes, since last week.  West Auckland was hit hard  over the weekend.
But today was a beautiful sunny day - pity it was a work day :)

Oh dear that is so devastating!  All the poor people losing their stock and getting flooded out like that. How terrible!
Poor animals too! I hope you are okay Nykki! I hope it all passes soon and that all the people get their normal lives back.

The stock are all good. The farmers are pretty onto it round here. But as for drainage.... Lots of questions being asked :)

Thank you for your kind words.  Where I live we got it bad last week and over the weekend, West Auckland was hit hard. However, lack of drainage didn't help.

Thank you for taking an interesting.  The water is very murky and dirty looking due to all the soil and silt and debris flowing within. It was very loud and very fast paced, not its normal look.
Thanks again :)

This is part of the Honda gorge, but properties have had quite a bit of damage, especially West Auckland over the weekend. Last week it was Clevedon, where I live. Thank you for your kind thoughts.

Today was a beautiful day, so hopefully the rain has now stopped - for a while :)

I'm glad to hear. I hope so too. In Poland floods usually occur in spring, when ice and snow melt in the mountains.

So you get properties damaged as well? I hope you haven't had your property damaged due to flooding?
This was due to torrential rain, but the worst I've seen in many, many years.

In my town I live far enough from the river (but some live very close to it), but in Wrocław I'm in the flooding area. The last big flood in both places was in 1997, before I lived in any of them.
More about others... many people had lost their property in various years. Floods happen in Poland quite often (once a few years) in different areas. They're usually caused by melt and by abundant rains. We have anti-flooding systems that reduce the damage significantly. If there is a flood, usually there are organized actions of gathering supplies for victims.
I have to say that in last few years it was rather drought that was the problem, than flood.

I never thought of the amount of melting snow being a contributor to flooding, but of course. It appears you have a well organised system to aid victims of flooding - great to hear. And I hope you get a bit of rain to alleviate the drought conditions.

Thank you. This is usually quite calm. The rain has caused a bit of havoc due in part to really bad drainage!!! West Auckland seemed to get the worst over the weekend. Have a great week!
